GPS Fleet Tracking Product News & Trends

The latest innovations in GPS fleet management — from in-vehicle displays and insurance savings to greener fleets and theft prevention.

In-Vehicle Driver Displays with Garmin Integration

Several of our vendors now offer the ability to integrate the GPS tracking device with an in-vehicle Garmin device to serve as a display providing detailed dispatching and routing information from the office to your drivers in the field. These displays serve three purposes: Dispatch (schedule, dispatch and manage your fleet; send new daily jobs to a mobile; view up-to-date job status); Communicate (instantly via two-way messaging between the office and in-vehicle Garmin device); and Navigate (automatic voice-guided turn-by-turn directions, choose job order based on proximity, receive accurate ETAs, update routes in real-time to avoid traffic).

Significant Insurance Savings for Our Clients

We now have at least 2 commercial liability insurance agencies working with us to extend discounts to our clients that use our GPS Fleet Management products to reduce their risk. These agencies see the value of having GPS protect our mutual clients' assets. Contact us to learn more about qualifying for these insurance discounts.

A Way to a Greener Fleet

The increasing awareness of global warming is causing many companies with mobile workforces to think about their carbon footprint. GPS Fleet Management offers businesses a way to help make their fleet greener by using GPS data to: reduce overall miles driven by eliminating unauthorized use and through more efficient routing; reduce unnecessary engine idling; and ensure proper vehicle maintenance. Data from the EPA's Smartway Transport Partnership shows that together, truck and rail transport consume over 35 billion gallons of fuel each year — and GPS-based fleet management can help companies become more productive AND environmentally responsible.

Data and Communications via Cell Phone

For businesses with field-based managers or drivers who wish to communicate using text messages, GPS Fleet Management offers several options — none requiring any special software other than a phone that accepts text messaging. Customers can send and receive messages via text message, and can see exact satellite maps of their vehicles' locations on their cell phone if it has browser capabilities.

Vehicle Alarm Integration for Instant Theft Notification

With the increasing occurrence of theft of vehicles and equipment in Arizona, we integrate GPS tracking units with theft detection systems. It can be as simple as receiving an instant email or text message when vehicle movement or ignition is detected after hours — or as sophisticated as having the GPS unit integrated into the vehicle alarm system. If the vehicle is broken into, started, or moved without ignition, the alarm sounds, the ignition is disabled, and the customer receives an instant notification with the exact vehicle location. The end user can also disable the ignition remotely.

Event Monitoring for Productivity and Moonlighting Prevention

All of our GPS solutions allow the end user to monitor more than just the vehicle. We have janitorial companies with GPS installed in their vehicles that are also tied into their carpet cleaning machines — tracking when the vehicle arrived, when the machine was turned on, how long it ran, and when the vehicle left. This feature has been used on plaster trucks, delivery trucks (rear doors), vent cleaning vehicles, street cleaners, and many other applications. One delivery customer has the GPS set up to disable the ignition when the rear door is open, preventing the truck from departing unsafely.
